Lead Pastor Needed

Lead Pastor Needed

Hague Gospel Church (HGC) is searching for a godly man to step into the full-time role of Lead Pastor. The lead pastor will work with the elder board in leading the congregation to fulfill our God-given vision, which includes the following key elements:

  • Worship: Treasuring and putting on display in all of life the incomparable worth of the God of the Bible. To this end, our goal as a church is every member attending worship services faithfully.

  • Grow: Becoming more like the Lord Jesus Christ as we regularly fellowship together in the Word and in prayer. To this end, our goal is to see every member connected to a Growth Group.

  • Serve: Serving others passionately and even sacrificially with our God-given gifts so that Christians keep on growing up spiritually and non-Christians are drawn to Jesus so that they might be saved. To this end, our goal is to see every member serving on at least one ministry team.

A little about Us

Hague Gospel Church (HGC) is located in Hague, Saskatchewan and is a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Mission Conference (EMMC). HGC was born in 1963 when the congregations of two rural EMMC churches amalgamated.

HGC has recently completed the construction of a new church building with sanctuary capacity for about 220 people, and we were excited to hold the first service in the new building in October 2020. We currently have about 70 active members and by God’s grace have grown during the past year, despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic. While it is difficult to determine what our “normal” attendance would be (in absence of gathering restrictions), it is estimated that an average Sunday service would include 120-150 people.

The average age of the attendees is quite young, as the majority is made up of families with young and elementary-aged children. On a typical Sunday morning, approximately half of the attendees are children and youth under 20 years of age. The church’s current programs include Sunday School for adults and children, youth group, Christian Service Brigade for boys, GEMS Girls’ Club and many small group Bible studies.

We have been through significant changes and challenges recently, including the construction of the new building and the resignation of our former lead pastor at the end of 2020, along with the continuing impact of the pandemic. Since the beginning of the year, we have brought in various guest speakers and utilized both current and former elders of HGC to handle preaching duties, but we are seeking to fill the position of full-time lead pastor for the church.

We currently have three part-time paid staff, consisting of an administrative assistant, custodian, and finance assistant. We also have numerous volunteers that lead the aforementioned ministry programs and five lay elders who are responsible for the spiritual direction and oversight of the church.

A Little About Hague

Hague is a town of approximately 900 residents located about 40km north-northeast of Saskatoon. It is located on a major divided highway that runs between Saskatoon and Prince Albert, the 1st and 3rd largest cities in the province, respectively. There are also a number of smaller communities and a significant number of acreages within a few minutes of Hague. As a result, HGC serves a broader population that is more than double the population of the town itself.

The town and surrounding areas were largely established and settled by Mennonites in the late-1800s/early-1900s. While there has been increasing diversity in the couple of decades, Mennonites still make up a strong majority of the residents, and many of the older residents still speak Low German, although all speak English as well.

The town is relatively young overall and has been growing at a steady pace for the past few decades. The construction industry is the dominant employment sector within the community, but there is also a strong connection to the agricultural community, including grain, beef and dairy farming. In addition, there are many who commute to Saskatoon daily for work, given Hague’s proximity to the city.

Hague offers many services, including a public elementary school and high school, two gas stations, small food court, vehicle dealership, two hardware stores, two auto repair shops, car wash, restaurant, grocery store, library, hockey arena, curling rink, fire department, post office, pharmacy, beauty salon, museum and credit union, along with other local businesses.
